About
I took my first guitar apart at 13, before I even learned to play it I had it in scattered pieces trying to figure out what made it tick. I guess I’m still doing the same thing today. Learning to play guitar in the 80’s was a blast, even with no internet tabs or online video tutorials. That went double for any guitar building or repair instruction. You had to learn by doing, and I can tell you I quickly became an expert in what not to do. I’ve had some great guitar teachers along the way and even greater Luthier mentors.
For years, I would build myself the guitars I was looking for but couldn’t find, then more and more friends would ask if i could build one for them just like mine. Alcorn Guitars started as a passion project to provide guitar players with the quality custom tailored instruments they were looking for, but either couldn’t find or couldn’t afford. That tradition continues today and my excitement around handing someone their dream guitar is greater today than it’s ever been.
Utilizing innovative ideas blended with design, functionality and aesthetics my goal is to bring each player’s dream instrument to life. It starts by bringing classic lines and designs that are tempered with modern refinements and feel, then really listening and getting to know what each individual is looking for and helping them create the “perfect” guitar for them. I love using alternative woods, classic and offset shapes, in addition to high end components to create designs that inspire creativity and desire to PLAY. It’s so rewarding to create something that is ultimately going to create so much joy for the person playing it by inspiring them to not want to put it down. As a kid from the 80’s, I have to quote the late great Edward Van Halen “Just Play”.
